Why you should check her blog out: I’ve only been following Cassie for a few weeks now, but I already look forward to each new post. In addition to sharing some fantastic healthy treats, she also curates a weekly list of her favorite articles and links.
Most recent post: ELDERFLOWER BELLINIS
5. Sara – Dinner at the Zoo
Sara says: Aside from picky eating the other major hurdle to successfully feeding a family is time, or lack thereof. At the end of a long day the last thing anyone wants to do is spend hours working in the kitchen, especially when your kids are underfoot asking repeatedly when dinner will be ready. I am a huge believer in meal planning, it takes a lot of stress off me to have a plan in place. I also rely heavily on doing my basic food prep well before dinner time.
Why you should check her blog out: Sara’s cooking background covers a wide spectrum. She used to take cooking classes and make elaborate multi-course meals with exotic ingredients. Now she creates meals for her kids and shares her repertoire of healthy recipes that are also kid-friendly. Her perspective is unique and refreshing and I get excited when she comes out with a new post.

10. Kaitlin – I Can Cook That

Why you should check her blog out: Kaitlin’s background really resonates with me. She started her site as a way to challenge herself to become a better cook, and uses it to keep her motivated. She admits that she is not quite “skilled enough to look at a few ingredients in my kitchen and whip up a fantastic meal”, and that kind of honesty is refreshing. If you’re just starting your cooking journey, you want to follow people from all walks of life — there’s something to learn from everyone!
Most recent post: Kourambiethes (Greek Christmas Cookies)
11. Emily – The Pig and Quill
Em says: “Most of the recipes you’ll find here are heavy on the plants and (somewhat) low on refined sugars and starches, though you can dig up plenty of exceptions if you go looking. I’m not gonna lie and tell you that some crispy pig tastes better with quinoa than it does over a steaming bowl of white rice, but, you know, moderation. I also get it on with pudding mix every now and again.”
Why you should check her blog out: I’ve only been following Em’s blog for a few weeks, but I look forward to reading her posts because with her it’s not just about the food. It’s her life and she makes her readers smile with her stories and writing. Don’t get me wrong, though, her creations are amazing!

13. Luisa Weiss – The Wednesday Chef
Luisa says: “After college, six formative weeks at the Radcliffe Publishing Course and one lonely year in Paris, I spent a decade in New York City, where I worked in book publishing as a literary scout and, later, as a cookbook editor (for more on my career path, click here). I started this website in New York City in August 2005 to work through a mountain of recipe clippings from the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times that I’d been obsessively saving for years. What started out as a fun little hobby ended up changing my life.”
Why you should check her blog out: Luisa is an accomplished writer and this is evident when you read her blog. I love the way she introduces each recipe, and the range of dishes she covers is broad. On her site you’ll find lots of healthy meals – with lots of amazing vegetable dishes – with the occasional indulgence. Highly recommended for new cooks.

14. Caroline Stegner – Sweet Caroline’s Cooking
Caroline says: “I always found myself too busy to take 20 minutes to prepare and cook a homemade meal. I often resorted to Lean Cuisines and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches… Considering I grew up on home cooked meals and have parents who are extremely adept in the kitchen, I find it odd that I didn’t pick up cooking and baking until a later age. Nonetheless, here I am now, a blogger who loves anything and everything about food.”
Why you should check her blog out: Following Caroline’s site feels like you’re watching a friend cook. She learns through trial and error and her site gives off an approachable vibe that makes you feel like you can do what she does too.

16. Teri – The Freshman Cook
Teri says: “While I was a chef, one of my favorite things to do in the kitchen was teach others how to cook. I think it is a great skill to have, and I usually worked with a lot of people younger than myself… Cooking is a skill that you can utilize pretty much anywhere in the world, and those skills transfer to a home kitchen quite easily also.”
Why you should check her blog out: Teri’s blog started it when her son was in college and wanted to be more mindful of what he was eating. So, she writes for “the freshman cook” who might feel comfortable cooking foods that he or she would eat if they were at home and their moms had cooked. Shout out to Linda for posting such useful information and being so willing to help beginners like me.
Most recent recipe post: Creamy Shrimp Chowder
19. Jenny B – Honey and Birch
Jenny says: “I am a self-taught home cook. Before I met my hubby, I truly found it difficult to boil an egg and cooked mainly with the microwave. Then I met Mr. B – that man eats enough at each meal to feed a family of four. I quickly realized if I didn’t learn to cook, we were going to go broke eating out at fast food joints and restaurants and buying heavily processed foods at the grocery store.”
Why you should check her blog out: If you find that you gravitate towards blogs of self-taught cooks (maybe because you’re on a similar path), Honey and Birch is a great one to follow. Jenny focuses on easy recipes which are perfect for beginner cooks (think one-pot meals and dishes that require less than 5 ingredients). What you see here on the blog is what we’re eating, maybe not on a daily basis but every recipe is tested on my strongest critics. ”
Why you should check her blog out: Seeing the food that Rachel’s family eats is nice because it can spark ideas that you’ve never thought of before.
