Bad News: I BURNED MY HAND 😭😭😭… I’ll describe my mistake below — hopefully this helps others avoid doing the same thing. Painful!
Day 35: Oven Roasted Chicken Thighs
I’m happy to announce that I have successfully memorized the process of cooking Pasta + Meat Sauce, including a 2nd version with no tomato (Beef Stroganoff).
I’m currently documenting the strategy I used to memorize it (it’s nothing special, but I’ll share it anyway). The real test will be when I try to make it from memory in a few weeks. In the meantime, I’m starting to learn my next dish…
Day 28: Totally Redeeming Myself (Beef/Turkey Stroganoff)
I’m feeling pretty comfortable with the whole Pasta & Meat sauce workflow. With the dishes I’ve made so far, I think of the process as having 5 major parts:
- Boil the water and add the pasta after 10 minutes
- Prepare the ingredients (chop the onion/garlic)
- Cook the onion/garlic until they’re soft (add salt & pepper)
- Cook the ground meat until it turns brown (add salt & pepper)
- Drain the oil and add the sauce. (add salt & pepper, plus any additional spices)
I’ve gotten good results with this formula so far, and I decided to modify the dish yet again. This time I tackled the recipe that traumatized me in college (jk, kinda)… Beef/Turkey Stroganoff.
Day 21: My Savings Goal, and more Pasta & Meat Sauce
I set a goal to save $5,000 from cooking vs. eating out. When I get there, I’ll save half and use the rest to take the wifey on a trip to one of my bucket list restaurants.
I’m tracking my progress on this spreadsheet.
I’ve only cooked 2 things so far, but looking at my progress is already exciting. Seeing how much of a difference it makes to cook at home ($2.09 vs.$12.50 to eat out) is crazy.
Day 10: First Attempt at Memorizing Pasta With Meat Sauce
I made some good progress today – I found my first recipe, bought the ingredients, and cooked it!
